Celestial Bodies: Solo Exhibition by Ren Lee at Clay Hand Studios in Fresno, showing through Labor Day weekend, 2018
July 19, 2018
Get back on the horse, they say. Coming back to clay after a long hiatus, in a different climate, with different clay bodies and different firing methods has been a challenge. I told myself I should take a year to get back in form, but 9 months later with the help and encouragement of my steadfast associates at Clay Hand Studios, I have 85 new pieces up in the gallery, plus two complete chess sets. The way to this exhibit has been fraught with terrors. Coming from my past experience with a small wood fired train kiln to a studio electric kiln was rather a shock, and learning about glazes has been a rocky and often disastrous experience. I was thrilled to discover the availability of a soda ash kiln named Big Bertha and have fallen in love with her.
The current show features inspiration figures, archetypes embodied in chess pieces, suns, moons, and a random star. The show is up through Labor Day weekend. Please come!
